Seasoned hikers in Sandakan know the Mangrove Discovery Centre (MDC) because of the 9 km hike from the Rainforest Discovery Centre which leads to the Kabili Trail and ends at MDC.

MDC is truly Sandakan's hidden nature's gem! It is not known to most people due to its secluded location. It can only be accessed through the Kabili Trail and by sea.

Since 1996, MDC has been a popular site for schoolchildren to learn about mangroves. You do not need a guide there as there are many infographics along the mangrove boardwalk to educate yourself on the mangrove ecosystem.
